Milky Way Galaxy,
Hey guys, am going to put a Silver Aro in my pond i just got a couple questions. I will keep my Aro in a 800gal with an RTC and no other tank mates. Its heated to 74F but in the day it gets to 76-78F at night its 74F. I plan on feeding it those meat pellets, frozen bloodwrom, some feeders once a month, and market shrimp. When i get my RTC he'll be 8" and my aro will probley be 12-14"inches. So he has a head start. Any suggestions? Thanks

1. Cover the top of the pond.
2. Provide stable temps all year round.
3. No live feeder fish.
4. Have anchor worm / parasite medication on hand.
5. Don't fill the pond more than around 80%.

thanks for the feed back. 1. So he wont jump? can i have it off in the day and put it on in the night?
2.but the tempts dont drop dramaticly in one go. it drops over 5-7 hours.
3.Got it. Same with brine shrimp?
4. Anchor worm? Any brand names you suggest?
5. Why? i do that anyway just, wondering.

1. Up to you, depends on pond water height. I would have it on 24/7
2. 5-7 hours is dramatic enough. If it was over days or weeks then that would be fine. Aim to keep temps not dropping more than 5-6 degrees F as stable temp.
3. Brine shrimp should be ok, but i wouldn't bother with brine shrimp. Market prawn(shrimp) / should be main diet.
4. Birds poo in water. Parasites enter water coloumn and infect fish. It's pretty hard sometimes to avoid unless you change a lot of water. No organophosphate chemicals. Seachem paraguard is arowana safe and works well from personal experience. Another product is Ocean Free O. It maybe difficult to get in the US. Paraguard can be bought relatively cheap and in large size.
5. Around 80% capacity, reduces fatailty from jumping, also helps reduce predatory birds from hanging around the side of the pond looking for a meal from your fish. (another good reason to cover 24/7) If the birds can't reach in the water from the side from the reduced water capacity, then less chance of fatality from your fish livestock. Also allows for sudden increase in water volume from storm water etc without flooding the pond.

IMO you don't need to cover the pond as long as you have something round the side which will stop the Aro form falling on the floor should it jump. This could be rocks and plants, glass, or a brick perimeter.

feeders are fine just make sure you qt them...top is not as big of a deal in an outdoor pond...

why would your feed brine shrimp to these massive beasts?

I would put a net around it or a fence with fishing line above it so birds cannot eat your fish....feeders are fine just QT them for a week or so before feeding

sorry kinda new to this how do you QT them? i would have brine shrimp as a snack for them. Anyway its still fun to put them in so people get the WHTF is that momment. Only birds i have are Blue Jays(small), those little brown birds that fit in you hand idk what there called and hummingbirds.

well birds will fly over your property if they see a fish, they will come and try to get the fish.

my cousin had problems with birds and racoons getting his kois, he lived in raleigh, NC like 2-3 hours away from the coast
