I have to admitt I have fallen in love with the hybred cichlids. Is it because I myself can be seen as a Hybred? My mother is mexican/puerto rican and my father is african american ... what does this have to do with this thread .. I don't know.

This will be the 1st post of I hope many in this thread letting you know how well this crazy experiment goes. The first step is going to be to rehome some fish I have currently. I have an albino Oscar more orange then albino that will need to go. A Cuban cichlid with some cool markings and possibly my two blood parrots. Or do you think the Parrots will hang, they aren't aggersive at all. Currently I have a 4 inch Texas Hybred, whose hump is just starting to grow. I have a two or three inch flowerhorn, just bought two 1 inch red texas and another 1 inch flowerhorn. Pictures of the new pick ups I'll post soon.

So am I :screwy: or will this workout. I have bred convicts and red devils with other fish living amongst them. I'm hoping to do the same and in the process come up with some crazy hybreds myself.

Feedback please.

Whats your objective in creating your own fish?
A Tex X ZZ isnt going to look good, Just a super low grade ZZ.
Maybee you can work with the Red tex when they get a bit bigger, But I dont see anything good coming out of breeding these 2 fish.

My objective is to keep a community of hybreds and successfully breed my own fish in the process. Do you thinks it's possible for a cuban and texas to breed?

Two flowerhorns, two red texas and a texas hybrid in a 135 G is a recipe for WW3 once they put on a bit of size. Seriously, most FH's in particular are MEAN !
Sounds also like you need to do a bit more research and actually have a definate plan with your breeding, rather than just breeding hybrids indiscriminately. There is no real market for poor quality hybrids. Seems to me that the market's main hybrid interest is in decent quality FH's, red texas, and parrots of various descriptions. I'm certainly no expert on the breeding and selling thing though !

It's great to see how much enthusiasm you have though ! Do a lot of reading online, and decide exactly what you want to do, and/or breed. You'll either need some more tanks or will need to move on some of your current fish. SOunds like a fun problem to have though !

No idea what a "bullet loco homie" is but I voted for that !!

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm doing this as more as a research/bredding project. Not really trying to sell flowerhorns or hybreds to anyone, I'm just wanting to see if you can sucessfully have a flowerhorn/hybred community tank. If so can you have your fish breed in the tank without having to seperate them in order to do so.

Yeah man go for it, Use them as feeders, Just dont let them grow up or you will have to cull bigger fish.

Just dont give them to anybody or sell any of them. Because next thing you know the fish ends up at an LFS sold as a texas or something. Somebody takes it home and breeds it and wonders why half the fish are deformed and does not carry the right genetics for that species. It keeps strains pure and healthy and hybrids... hybrids. Mostly all the fry wont look good and only a few will take on both parents desirable traits.

Thanks Fishingout
I will continue to update the thread with pics and updates. Right now I'm just trying to get everything set up to my liking and the stock list will be slighty over stocked to hopefully cut down on the aggersion. Today my texas hybrid and my newly bought flowerhorn paired up. Not sure if it's for protection because the flowerhorn is about half the size of the Texas.
