White or apple vinegar also works on calcium deposits. I was able to get most off my one tank with that and scraping with an old gift card.

First picture is your sump, second pic that is your pump on the right, a protein skimmer in center (very few people run those freshwater but have seen it), and those dials on the left I used to run as a cheap way to turn on and off the lights at set times (or whatever you feel like only running at certain times).

Third picture looks like an older magnum 350 canister filter (should have a top).

Fourth picture, the rock is base rock as it is far from live now. You can sell that and the skimmer since you are going freshwater.

Also, bottom picture that is the tube that leads into your sump. Not sure what the blue thing is bc hard to tell in picture.

Also judging by the colored lines coming off a different canister in top right of fourth picture he has an RO [reverse osmosis] unit (filters water, greatly removes tds/total dissolved solids, and other trace elements depending on how many stages). Not sure if he is including that.

great advice, i dont typically like using chemicals of any kind inside my tank. i would like to think that the vinigers would work great and easy on the silicone as well. also thank you for the advice on the items pictured. now the sump obviously hooks to the pump but what is the need of a canister at that point? is there a need or is it overkill? does the pump collect before or after a canister also? i would think it would be inline but i have never dealt with salt water or overflows as well. im not sure if i am getting that osmosis deal next to it ether. that would be really cool but dont know yet. if i am envisioning it correctly, the pump draws water from one overflow threw a canister filter, next threw the pump and into the wet dry sump, then out threw the other overflow? i know i can research the heck out of all this but no better research then simply asking the ones who have done this before!

the big move is done! i was determined to get it out and i got everything with it. the guy is moving to Maine and wants to set up a 250 gallon there. i will post some pics so all can see how this project is coming along. Also is there anyone out there in newengland that wants about a hundred pounds of dead coral and about a hundred pounds of sand, a protiene skimmer, and reverse osmosis two part system? for all my great friends here we can work out an extremely good deal!

i would like to add that from that pic, you were exactly right with the magnum 350! it was so funny to get there and pick that filter up and say wow he is correct! he threw in a few extra cartrages the original box and the lid is attached to the lines under the tank

hello today i spend many hours of great elbow grease and got the tank all clean. the viniger and water worked perfectly! cleaned the glass up very nice. i have to let it dry up and see what is left stuck on the glass. also i want to take some pics tomorrow. i took all the hardware off and sanded the whole thing, then stained it all as well (lid and stand that is not tank). im thinking of putting a single 4 foot shop florescent light in the lid? any input? the lights that were in it look as if there some sort of high pressure bulbs. none the less probably coral growing lights.

I wish I could help with the setup of the sump but I know about as much as you about them at this point.

Oh and there is no such thing as over kill when it comes to filtration unless your fish are pressed against the glass.:p

Dude, I'm excited for you. *subscribed*

hi all, i have a few pics for ya here. the pics are showing some of the works in progress. over the last couple days, i have cleaned the tank really well with the vinigar wash and just simple warm water. i also have sanded all the wood work down and re-stained it a little more to my liking. the tank is flipped over in the pic because i started installing the plumbing to the over flow and am letting silicone dry before hooking up the rest. all silicone looks great no loose stuff, no dry parts so hopefully we will see if she holds water tomorrow! also im going to throw in a couple other pics, one of the monster tank that i am taking all the smaller stuff out of to put in the 90, and one of the two catfish i just got for free as well because they have grown out of there home. also in the last pic, you will see some rocks, there the beginning of the 8x12x48" deep pond that all these cats will be in for life! a lot of work over the next few months but all the fish are worth it.
