I just feel like I'm having a real old codger type moment. I've been watching videos of Neil Young (among others) on youtube and I can't help but feel that music has gone down hill big time in the past ~10 years. I saw Neil live in January this year, and even at age 63 he put on a hell of a show, making most of the newer bands at the festival look like a bunch of amateurs.
I just watched these two videos of him performing Old Man and Heart Of Gold back in the 70's, just him and an acoustic guitar. He wrote the lyrics and the music, plays the guitar and harmonica and sings the song, I can't think of a modern artist (I hesitate to call them musicians) with half that much talent. There is no one I can think of who can be compared to the likes of Young, George Harrison, Bob Dylan etc, in terms of being a lyricist, a musician and a singer.
So is most modern music rubbish, or am I just turning into a grumpy old bugger?
