I just feel like I'm having a real old codger type moment. I've been watching videos of Neil Young (among others) on youtube and I can't help but feel that music has gone down hill big time in the past ~10 years. I saw Neil live in January this year, and even at age 63 he put on a hell of a show, making most of the newer bands at the festival look like a bunch of amateurs.
I just watched these two videos of him performing Old Man and Heart Of Gold back in the 70's, just him and an acoustic guitar. He wrote the lyrics and the music, plays the guitar and harmonica and sings the song, I can't think of a modern artist (I hesitate to call them musicians) with half that much talent. There is no one I can think of who can be compared to the likes of Young, George Harrison, Bob Dylan etc, in terms of being a lyricist, a musician and a singer.

So is most modern music rubbish, or am I just turning into a grumpy old bugger? :screwy:

Yeah too much modern music is just old stuff reheated for a new audience.

Love the Neil Young stuff, so I am biased.

i totally agree with you that music isnt what it used to be..... but yeah neil young = old :( soz

You're old dude! Neil is cool and all but can he still sing? Could he ever? Don't get me wrong, he's one hell of a song writer but damn, the guy needs to project.
Neil aside, music these days incorporates current technology which requires just as much talent to master.
There is alot of 'rubbish' out there but also many talented musicians who have, can and will take music to the next level. Ever heard of RJD2, Bonobo, Scissor Sisters?...To name a few.

I agree too some extent. Music has always been a evolving art form not at all fair to compare different generations of music.

Technology, Has brought alot more variety of music to the masses which i think appeals more to the whole trend of "not being trendy(Once a band hits the radio=Thye sold out)".

Anyways excited about crosby stills n nash coming up, Im there.

to a certian extent some modern music is good in my opinon but your not getting old its just your opinon
