Hi,
This may sound stupid but I needed some help with my Pictus Catfish however the String Ray section I noticed after registering made me reconsider that this is a site for 'monster' sized fish only... I know... I'm not on the ball today.
But the tone/intelligence of your discussions here led me to ask at this website for help. I am not as intelligent and a newby in every sense.

Well, no ney sayers so here is the question.

Fish store used mesh to catch 2 1/2" pictus and hung it up on barbs. They couldn't remove it, I delicately held his body and unhooked him fairly easily but the fish folks took long and broke a whisker?

I noticed in my tank the one whisker was not manipulated as the other one was. 2 days later fungus fuzz has developed along this whisker. I treated with Kanaplex by Seachem 2X in 4 days. The fungus is worsening and pictus has slight tatered fin on the same side in contact with limp whisker.. conserned about spreading fin rot from constant contact between fin and infected whisker.

I have good cycle in tank conditions for him, took out charcoal for treatment, temp 79-80. Pictus active and eating flake and frozen blood worms

So does fungus get worse before it gets better? should I (terrible thought) clip the offending fbrken fungused whisker to stop spread to fin?

thanks for all who viewed but could not reply to my question.

My mistake; I'll try another forum.

Not sure of the fungas which your reffering to, is it possible to tank a picture and post it up as it will usually spark a lot more attention, It's hard to get answers for things like this without pictures because it could be a totally different issue than what is discribed. patience is needed when talking about the health of a catfish (yes Pictus count as cats... just very very.... VERY small ones) :grinyes:

i would switch to pimafix. Its all natural, and ive found its safe for catfish. That could be why its getting worse. In my experience pictus cats can be very sensitive, so the type of medication could be affecting the progress you would like to see.

Give us a chance. there are a lot of knowledgeable people here. just takes time.

is it something like a white fuzz growing on your fish
for something like this i have used tetracyclin and the fuzz went in just a day but the med was used on an ornate and i don't know whether the cat can handle it or not as most cats don't handle meds well
other than that crank the temp a little bit that might help too

first of all, welcomw to MFK.
Don't know if I'll tell a good or stupid thing but, meds like melafix or pimafix wouldn't help ?? Its rare to see this meds around here, but its easier to find there.
hope your pictus get better.
post some pics so all can help more

I've always used maracyn and coppersafe to treat any type of body fungus on my cats with no ill effects. In my case it was a small cat (2" rapheal) I did one dose of coppersafe along with one dose of maracyn according to directions. Then after 24 hours I did another half dose of maracyn, and the whole issue was resolved. None of the other fish in the tank were affected.

Welcome to MFK. Please stick around, most of the time answers come very quickly, but occasionally, you will have to wait a little while. :)

Welcome 2 MFK. Hope you stick around. Just because people view your thread and dont respond does not mean they are ignoring you, perhaps they simply dont know the answer. When posting a question it might help to be alittle more patient.
