i would switch to pimafix. Its all natural, and ive found its safe for catfish. That could be why its getting worse. In my experience pictus cats can be very sensitive, so the type of medication could be affecting the progress you would like to see.

Give us a chance. there are a lot of knowledgeable people here. just takes time.

pima and melafix are basically tea extracts or aloe vera...
some thing like tetracyclin or methyline blue (smaller dose) would work

also remember that after an injury most fish seem to get a little fuzzy white growth anround the injury.. kinda like a scab but underwater.. seems perfectly natural.. but if it hasn't gone away in more than a week it might be more serious... as asked i would also post pictures...

Hi, and thank you for all your help and reassurances.

I was pannicked and yes...impatient...guilty as charged.

Good news is the whisker broke off on its own leaving a 3/8 " inch stump with a amll bump on the end where it broke off. He uses it well, it is a little sensitive for him as he touches things he sometimes 'flinches" and darts away but the white fuzz is gone from there at least.

However his pectoral fin on that side increased on white fuzz into a round mass covering it entirely like a mitten. The good news...he is not clamping his fins, eats very well and is active.

I have no hospital tank (bought one today for future use) so his buddies: 3 black stripe neons, an albino corycatfish and a rougue minature snail attached to some plants I bought are in fine shape going thorugh the meds with him.

I gave a days rest after finishing the third course of Kanaplex, checked / partial change water and put in charcoal for that day. I have today started "fungus cure" by Aquarium Pharmacuticals..turns water green and over a few hours disipates to a large degree...at least the colour does. Removed charcoal and added air stone to help out.

He looks good considering but he does this weird thing... he swims in circles from the bottom to close to the top always repetively and in same direction.. for hours... and occasionally swims elsewhere to do it again in opposite direction.

Is he just having fun? a little touched from the meds and fungus? or is this not normal ofr either. The corycat enjoys doing a few loops with the Pictus and the Pictus seems to slow for touching bodies in passing...appears to be enjoyable for both I think.

I will do a 25% water change tomorrow and see where we are at. If it doesn't start to resolve I will try the sugested meds from the girl with the 2" pictus... sorry on next page so can't see you name....

Or someone mentioned another thought elsewhere and I'd like to know if anyone has tried this.

They suggested putting Iodine directly onto affected fin via cue tip 9 no rubbing just plop a little on.

I worried about stressing him in this practise and if it would work as a last resort...direct contact between fungus and a med?

I'm sorry, I can't put up pictures... no camera just yet.

Thanks again for all your suggestions and advice.

Ps, I will look for pictures of 'slime' covering wounds like a natural scab, against what I see on him. It may be I am wrong although it was fairly large amount of dense white fuzz over his wounds which are fins/whiskers so i thought of fin rot being most likely but I have never seen a picture of natural healing in fish to compare.

Any links to this kind of photo would be much appreciated.

Thanks for everyones suggestions.

After medication routine i waited a few days for anychange. I noticed it was not any larger growth and the medication seemed to work but 'fuzz' was now a lump that fish could not get off or navigate well with it hampering him.
So I caught him in the net, left net/fish in water and gently 'zweezed' lump off, it had become hoker on the cats claw on fin and came off easily in one piece. Very happying catfish! immediately swam around like an acrobat enjoying his speed and agility again. No further issues after this.
In the end though...Fish scab or fungus...I really don't know.

Well that's interesting. I have never performed surgery on any fish. Infected flesh? Remove it. That's what we'd do for a mammal. I'd be afraid to make it worse, and wouldn't try it. But it might sometimes be appropriate.

BTW I loved this...

"thanks for all who viewed (190+ views) but could not reply to my question.
My mistake; I'll try another forum."

The 'ol bait and switch classic, backhand to the face compliment/insult. With a dash of polite self-deprecating persecution for spice.
Beautifully executed! 10/10
Stick around. You'll fit right in.

No 'fish surgery'... like I said, the fungus was shriveld and off the fin..it was simply stuck on the barb of the fin hampering his movements and he could not shake it, rub it or scrape it off. I didn't touch my fish just the fluff trailing and hampering him and he was very thrilled as he whipped through the water with a spectacular show right after and onwards...happy Pictus.

Spankbelly, I meant that 'quote' sincerely...no bate and switch.
At the time it had been a day and 14 views with no comments so i assumed I was in the wrong forum and people were unable to help, not that they were unwilling.

You know the saying that you project in your own values when evaluating a persons intentions?
I suspect your a 'glass is half empty' kind of person and look for the worst possible interpretation in a persons intentions rather than the truely obvious, well intended and less nefarious meaning in thier comments.:screwy:

In this particular case, my obsevation is truely based on your clearly obvious meaning. And there for I am glad to say I won't fit in to your crowd here.:)

For the others who graciously helped me with support and advice, thank you again.

Well hope your pictus cat gets better, and just use the best possible med you can get, more likely Pimafix for this issue...and We ALL hope you stick around in this forum...as your more likely to get more comments in your threads faster on this forum unlike those other forums which seems like forever to get replys...here we have much much more knowledgable people on this board than you can imagine so hope you stay :)

You are the first to successfully kick me right in the nuts.
