I'm not sure exactly what you're asking about the number of plants???

First, thank you and everyone else who responded to this post.

Secondly, I guess I meant how much of the tank should be covered with plants? Some tanks hardly have any plants, thus making some fish feel more vulnerable and less likely to be confident enough to swim out in the viewing open. However, they gain more confidence as there are more places for them to hide? I just wanted to know what percentage-wise that looked like of a tank.

So, my rummy school just went from 6 to 5 because i noticed that one was suffering from Ich. I didn't want to treat the water with saline or treatment, so I decided to take one of the fish out into my quarantine tank. I am debating whether or not this was the best thing to do. What do you think I should do when I notice a fish with Ich? (because, there is one more with light amount of spots in the tank, and I don't want to risk the rest of the school).

thank you so much to everyone who replied.
I have one modification in light of the new 1 inch rule that was posted,
I was wondering if this would be a bio overload if I had...

5-6 rummy,
5 black neon tetras,
6 corys
2 glass shrimp (optional)

As to plants, I have
anubias nana
water sprite
crpyto
elodea
java moss

and a couple of drift wood and a rock for hiding

how's this sound?

I've also been feeding my tank roughly 3-4 times a day
My fish still have ich, but it seems to have quelled in five of them, except one has gotten much worse.

I am waiting on a 150 watt jager water heater from big als to up the temp to around 90. When I do this increase in temperature, do I need to do this gradually?

what are you running for a filter? as long as you have a large bio area in you filter you could have more fish than that. i have a 29 gallon that i keep stocked. right now i have a 4 inch silver arrow, 12 1.25" silverdollars, 1 2.5"silverdollar, 2 2.5"super red severums, 4 skunk cory cats and 2 albino cory cats, and 2 4" to 5" angel fish, and 4 large mystery snails.

but i have a large sponge filter buried in gravel, and a cascade 300 ( filter rated for a 100 gallon tank) with the flow turned down low. i never have deaths, i test my water only to show colose to zero ammonia and nitrite.... and i have 4 plants to eat up some nitrate. and i do a 5 gallon water change once every 1 to 2 weeks..... and i feed heavy

that is about 45 inches of fish not including snails

Very nice to hear.

I have an Aquaclear 50/200 running on high. It is advertised to cycle 200 gal/hour at its full potential.

I am reassured that my tank won't be too overloaded with your comment.

Thanks.

So, right now I feel like my mid-bottom level will be quite full and exciting.
Anything for the top? Someone suggested marbled hatchet fish, but I'm afraid of them jumping out of my tank, as there is a small opening for the hang-on-the-back filter

that sounds really cool man
just like everyone else says
make sure you do a ton of water changes
good luck man

Thank you all very much.

I will update with photos and such once I get things in the mail and when I get some $$$$$$$$

:)

Yo,
So I decided to add three Otocinclus affinis to my tank.
Is that enough for them to feel comfortable to school?
