My 4 inches Red Tiger Oscar is just awesome! it comes to me eagerly whenever I go to it, begging for food, jumping, chasing and biting my finger for food, taking food from my hand and just eats pretty much all that I have been trying.

So far that I have fed my Oscar:

-Tiny mealworms, my Oscar loves it.

-Tetra Cichlid-complete food for Oscar and other large Cichlids and tropical fish. ( Sticks, which I believe is my Oscar's second favourite )

-Bloodworms, third favourite.

-Super-Gold Flower Horn food, ideally made for Flower Horn to bring out the red pigment of the fish. It contains natural astaxanthin, spirulina, and other plant algea plankton to stimulate the red pigment to appear. High protein to stimulate growth rate. This doesn't seem to taste the best for my Oscar but it eats nevertheless.

Since this guy / girl begs for food all the time, in the morning I usually feed him about 2-3 tiny mealworms, then maybe break the Cichlid stick in half and feed one of it. Later in the afternoon, maybe another mealworm or just two half Cichlid sticks. Now it's evening here and I fed him two tiny round pellets of the Super-Gold Flower Horn food. Am I overfeeding?:irked: Second question, can an adult Oscar cause injury to its owner's fingers?

i feed my cichlids M-W-F. IMO you are overfeeding. not too much but still overfeeding. about injury. i never been hurt by a cichlid. my wife refuses to stick her hand in any tank because she is afraid to be bitten. i work in the fish bizness and i have my hand in water 6-10 hrs a day. if you've ever been "wrinkly" after being in the bath for too long, you'll notic your skin is over saturated with water. then your skin is easily torn. that's bout the only way i can figure your O can bite you with injury.

At 4" your oscar is still a juvinile, an important period for growth and development. Most people will tell you that you should feed your fish often at this period it it's life. Your feeding schedual is alright for now, as the oscar gets older you will want to cut it down to maybe twice a day and eventually only once.

I fed my oscar 2 time's a day. Dont feed more than 3. When i fed 4 time's my water was murky.

this is how i feed my oscars, pea's deshelled also help with there digestion system:naughty:

i got bitten by an adult oscar and it drew the slightest amount of blood, from a weak spot above my fingernail. i also have low blood platelets which means my blood does not clot easily, which would of helped it to bleed

Might want to throw some veggies pellets in the mix as well. how fast do you want them to grow? At 3'' i fed my "O's" three times a day, seven days a week for 6 months. They grew to 9'' to 10''....all 6 of them, in 6 months. keep water clean.
