Hi guys, i just wanted some opinions on my 125 gallon south American cichlid setup. Want to know if these fish will be ok in the tank long term. Right now i have x1 convict x1 oscar x1 jack dempsey x1red devil x1 texas cichlid and x1 african featherfin catfish. The oscar and convict are the biggest in the tank right now both about 6 inches. Everyone else is about 3-4. Everyone seems fine right now not too much fighting going on. Any opinions are appreciated.

The bigger issue for you is that all your fish will beat each other up and youre going to end up with a few dead fish or a lot of ugly ones that you wont necessarily be proud of. Also, the featherfin would prefer a different type of water than the rest of those cichlids but I dont think itll kill the catfish in the long run, just giving you a heads up. My suggestion is you pick 2 of the cichlids from your stocklist and go get some medium sized tetras for dithers. That alone will stock your tank up. Personally, from experience, you will have the best acceptance of other fish from your Oscar and Jack Dempsey. The rest will try to takeover your entire tank for themselves as they grow.

Yeah the red devil and Texas are often pcycopaths when they get to breeding size. I've had mixed results with Oscars and Jack Dempsey's but generally they are much chiller fish. The convict I would imagine would try to pair up with another cichlid at some point and when convicts breed they get extremely mean. I've had my male kill fish 2-3x his own size when he was breeding. And the only bad thing with convicts is they will try to breed with most any other cichlid available.

Ok appreciate all the feedback. Ill keep an eye on things for the time being and be ready to intervine if things get out of hand as they grow.

Magnus is a cichlid og so if even he’s agreeing I’d definitely say cut the stock by 75%

Why not nip it in the bud now and not put your fish through the stress? Cichlids can snap overnight and you might be too late to even save them by the time you wake up. Everyone here is telling you it 100% won’t work, why not at least try to take the Texas or devil out for the time being? You did say you have another tank you can use
