I have been thinking of adding a few new fish, and i cant decide if i am overstocked or not, so i thought i would get some input

Tank is 180 gallons being filtered by eheim 2217, eheim 2234, emperor 400, with regular 40-50% water changes and filter cleanings
Sand bottom, a pieces of driftwood and some fake plants

I plan on adding some real plants in the near future, and upgrading to a larger tank (240-300g) as soon as i find something, but i dont want to be one of those people who overstock using "a future tank" as an excuse

Anyhow, my current stock is:
3x 6" discus
2x 5" discus
3x 4" discus
2x 2" dwarf neon rainbows
5x 1" neon tetras
10x 3-5" clown loaches

I'm thinking of adding 3-5 more 3-4" discus, and ~10-15 more rainbows 2-3" over the next several weeks

I think theres still plenty of room (especially compared to when the tank was full of ]V[onsters, but i was also running canisters and a 2000gph wet dry at the time) but let me know what you think
Thanks

I think you are getting close to the limit, it really will depend on how "regular" those water changes are. Most people don't advise clown loaches w/ discus b/c of their adult sizes and their activity level, but it has been done. If you took those out I think everyone (even the additions) would be happy and healthy. Have you checked this out: http://aqadvisor.com/AqAdvisor.php ?

And of course, don't forget to quarantine any new additions!

id like to see a pic of your tank. most discus tanks ive seen are smaller. i bet it looks nice

I would say you are fine. Discus require less swimming room than many other fish and look nice in groups. The fish have ample room so I'd base it on water quality. As long as your water is good than feel free to add some more IMO.

the clown loaches are doing fine with them for now, but i knew going into it that i would have to keep a close eye on them

water quality isnt an issue, and i do plan on adding another canister and/or emp400 as soon as i get some of my other tanks torn down

fish guts -- here are a few pics (sorry the quality in the first thread is terrible. and there are pics on page 2 of that thread as well)

i thought i had some full tank shots up on them, but im not seeing them now, so i will see if i cant get some soon

Honestly I think youre about max with the discus so dont add any more remembermore fish means more bioload which means you should do more water changes 2-3 75% a week should be good.

I would get rid of the loaches. then you could easily add 5 or 6 mode discus. discus should be the main attraction. you can add a large school of tetras. the neons may not last long once the discus are adults, and they are usually not a tight schooling fish. I have 25 lemons with my 8 adult wilds and they are always together. more discus and 30 or so rummies, lemons, or other larger tetras would look awesome.

1+ .

keep in mind, 180G tank - decoration = less than 180G. Also, give them some extra room to grow, otherwise you'll get bigger tank in future.
