I posted earlier about a leaking 180 tank. I thought I had found the source of the slow leak and it simply needed resealed. Well, I was waaaay off. Got the fish, water, and gravel out and quickly realized that I have a crack running the width of the tank, about a foot from the left side of the tank.

So, I assume I'm about to be told that I have to replace the whole bottom glass? Is a patch even a feasible thought to have? And what's the general price range on a piece of glass like that?

Sorry dog hit the keys LOL as I was saying 180 gallons is a lot of water to deal with also with the pressure of that much water the repair must be done correctly.

I went through this on a 75 that I got for free and found that the price of replacing the one piece of glass was almost as much as buying a new aquarium. And that's not counting the labor. Lesson learned...

Thats why I buy acrylics, not saying they don't fail, but its usually repairable. I'd replace the whole bottom glass or hit CL for a new to you tank. You could use Rubbermaid totes as a temp home until you can replace the tank.

thats a bummer. but you could lay a piece of acrylic down that fits perfectly in the bottom and glue that to the glass and then silicon over it. i know some big big tanks have double bottoms so im pretty sure you could do it no prob. but strip the silicon out first and re seal everythin. so you basically have a new bottom but also have more support.

Sorry to hear man, I would just try to sell it on CL as a reptile tank and buy a new tank. i agree that 180 gallons is a lot of water and difficult to fix.

That's a really bad idea. Don't ever patch a large crack on a glass tank, especially on the bottom.

How old is the tank? A tank that big should have a tempered bottom, which wouldn't crack in just one spot, but basically fracture into little pieces.

Its time for a new 180.

Ok goto advanced auto or auto zone or any car part store go in and them that your winshild has a crack and u need the liquid reasen for it.. Go home take out the fishy's and dry the whole tank extreamly well then apply the reasen to crack read directions and then let the reasen dry for about 4-8 hours. Once dried them put alittle water in the tank see if it fixed the leak if so then slowlyadd water. And if that does not work you will have to repace the tank. And i have one . It may be a little larger than 180 but you will have more room. If u decide to get the tank email me jason41230@yahoo.com. put on title that u need the tank so i wil know its you.
