i wonder if oscars will eat their babies after so long? or if oscar babies pick off the weaker smaller fry? hmm. i would be afraid they would mostly survive, and then be over run with oscars.

Im sure you could sell them to you LFS once they reach an inch or two

Oscars are good parents. You should keep the babies with them for a while. Right now, I'm just concerned; I hope these eggs become fertile, and you actually have a male and a female.

i'm having a tough time distinguishing which is male and female...or if they are different sexes....one....had a round spot on the bottom...and the other...isnt even close to being as large (the spot i'm talking about)
have any suggestions??

OH...and I was wondering...since the eggs are gone :( (i'm so sad...I was getting excited about being a grammy) IF THEY DO lay more eggs.....and they DO hatch....will my oscars be very protective of the babies or do you think my tinfoils will eat them?
I hope what I just said..all made sence haha

The oscars will be protective but the barbs may eat some. I hope they lay more eggs. My two o's laid eggs but they were always infertile. I think I had two females. As to which is which, most if not everyone cant tell the difference between the sexes. It is mostly just luck if you have a pair.

I really hope that she lays more eggs also...I want some babies!!!!
also...I'll be able to convince my hubby to get me another tank ;)
I've been waiting....it's been a few days now...I really hope it happens again soon!!

Me too. Id love to see newly hatched oscars. Mine only laid twice before the big one died.

Breeder net when they are fry while the new tank is acclimating, I would get a 30 gallon hex tank, or a 55 gallon tank for the fry. I would fill the new tank with half of the water in the tank thats set up right now.

Ohh didnt read the 2nd or 3rd page lol, yea sorry about ur loss of eggs, keep up updated.

IF I were you, I wouldn't invest in a hex tank, they're no good!
You should invest in a 50gal long tank or bigger. Reason being is
that you can add dividers(i say at least 2) for the fry which will happen alot.
O's will have hundreds maybe thousands if they all survive. So with the
dividers, you can divide the batches as they get bigger and sell them
to your lfs for some good ol store credit.
Don't forget to invest in some good sponges for the intake tube of your
filter so it doesn't suck up your fry in the "grow out" tank.

Don't worry about your loss. These things happen alot. The O's practice &
practice spawning till they're better at it.

And about the tin foils, I'd remove them for the moment,
they "might" be the reason for the missing eggs. Little rugrats may ate
them while the O's were asleep. Just a thought..

Congrats & enjoy, Granny. :)

HEY!!!!!!!!!!! UPDATE! hehe
we now have MORE EGGS!!!!
I just wanted to add that lol
I was thinking about finding a new home for the tinfoils actually..but they would need a large tank for sure .....
I dont want to give them away though....because I really like them...the only way that I would give them away is if we couldnt get another tank for them OR if I knew FOR SURE that I had a "pair" of oscars....
Thank you guys so much for all the quick replies..this forum is so much better then the one that I normally would go to!! You guys rock!!
oh and I really dont like "GRANNY" lmao hahaha
we'll just have tou wait ...... and wait again lol
