thank you. now i don't feel like such a freak. my theory is that millions of years ago, one species lived almost everywhere, and in order to adapt, it shrank or grew to accomodate its enviroment (sp.). but i don't think that we will ever be able to know for sure:(

I see it a tiny bit.

i don't think aros (silver, black, asian, aussie) can breathe air, thats why they are in trouble if power goes out and theres not enough dissolved oxygen. but arapaima and african aro do breathe atmospheric air.

Well they're both top water fish that can live in oxygen depleted water... yes they have minor similarities but I mean come one betas are like a couple inches compared to a couple/few feet hahaha.... Imagine a 3 foot beta... that would be amazing!!!! and probably mean as all hell hahahaha african butterfly fish have a similar face to an arrow also...

They may look a little alike but Bettas evolved long after the Osteoglossids. The fish is in a totally different family based on the physical characteristics that the ichthylogists use to separate them. Your fish is related to the Gourami. Great photo of the African Butterfly. It has a perfect reflection.
