That would gladly pay an extra 10-20 $ per piece of driftwood if it came tannins already removed? This is secondary in excitement only to watching paint dry

I think you don't see pre-soaked driftwood except on rare exceptions because it looks aweful when dried enough to sell. I live in the mountains of northern Arizona and have tons of manzanita wood all over. I clean it and cut it and donate to our local fish clubs, etc. The pieces that have been soaked for months usually never sell, and the new pieces that will leach tannins and take a little while to sink are usually the ones that go first. They look the nicest. I even have a nice big royal pleco that I let have at all the pieces to help me clean them (pooping machine, really disgusting tank) and those pieces do not sell.
 
Java wood is the way to go. Takes a month or so to finally sink but well worth it in terms of price and modest amount of tannins leached out.
