Am i the youngest here to keep a sw tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm 14 and I've been wanting to since 11 but my parents didn't let me despite the fact that I offered to prove that I'm capable...

I'm thinking about doing a nano now...using the "one day your family walks into your room, sees this new tank, asks how long it's been there and you tell them it's been here for a month but you didn't notice" method...

sounds to me as though you are not quite keeping a sw tank yet. i don't think up and cycling classifies as keeping quite yet. good luck though, and keep up on those water changes w salt as well

lol its good to see such young ones in here! my parents would have never let me keep fish when i was young. good luck on the salt tanks! just keep reading all the info you can and learn as much as you can..

i have never kept salt and have no desire to at this point-i love my freshwater tanks.

Wow goodluck on he SW tank. I have no desire just because it seems so difficult. They are beautiful though. Freshwater all the way here, but again goodluck and have fun.

My first tank was a saltwater tank. I was 5 and it was a 29 gallon with an undergravel filter. Used to go on collecting trips to fill it. I was lucky Dad had a 100+ tank fishroom. :)

I do just as many water changes on the salt tanks as the fw. The salt water ones are much more expensive though. You have to buy the salt and live rock is really expensive (especially for a big tank). Once they are cycled completely (could take up to 6 months) they are really impressive. Take your time and you will have a really nice tank.

it aint that difficult you just need to get use to the testing and getting the salt and money i bought my set up for 220 at petco and that was pretty cheap for saltwater

Im 15 and have an aquapod with a sleeper goby in it. Saltwater is awesome, to me it is a little more maintenence than freshwater, but tons more expensive, but worth it in the end. I had a 55 gallon sw when i was 12, set up by me. It went alright but then the tank leaked so I bought another and that one also leaked(both were brand new AGA) so I gave up on it till now. I want to set up a 30 gallon FOWLR with a radiata lionfish and a 5 gallon dwarf seahorse tank(when I get more experienced), will have to find a one to convice mom.
