Tbh I've never seen or heard of a Red Convict Cichlid. It's probably a color morph. African Cichlids and Convict Cichlid can't be bred together.

Tbh I've never seen or heard of a Red Convict Cichlid. It's probably a color morph. African Cichlids and Convict Cichlid can't be bred together.
There is a red morph Panamius panamense, that was once considered part of the same genus as the convict (Amatitlania) so it wouldn't;t surprise me if someone called it a red convict in the same way nanolutius is sometimes called a yellow convict.
I had the red morph in the early 90s, and it has the same body shape as a convict.
Later in the 2000s I came across a different color morph of the species, not quite so red.
Here they are with fry, before breeding I had swordtails as dither fish, after the spawn, the swords needed to be removed or they'd have been killed.

I have a group of nanoluteus. I find keeping species only works best. 1 Month or 3 week 50% works. Just treat them well and you will do fine
Kinda late to the party but I've so far had mild luck with keeping nanolutea with kanna. Two males in a 30 long. The kanna snaps at the nanolutea occasionally but I haven't seen any signs of stress or damage. I have found that kanna itself is also one of the less aggressive amatitlania, as it came from a tank where it was hiding 24/7 from actual (wild) convicts. I've tried growing nanolutea fry out with nigrofasciata fry, only for the nanolutea to be constantly stressed by the presence of the other species and succumb to some illness after a few weeks of being together.
I currently have a pair that spawns all the time in 55 gallon w a pair of chetumalensis which also spawn all the time along w a trio of dwarf? tilapia mossambicus which also spawn all the time w the nanolutea being the most aggressive in that tank…
Great fish to keep. As mentioned very timid for a cichlid. I had to rehome Roseline sharks due to them out competing them for food. Did well with Tetras, Cories, Bristnose,PTC.
