What do you mean not legit? They look like HRPs.
The head shape and barring looks off to me
Ken Davis has a history of working with hybrids and selling people fish that aren't HRPs, as HRPs, leading me to believe his line is not pure

I have to admit I'm rather jealous your aggression levels are manageable. I purchased a group of 6 juveniles from TUIC. The first two pairings happened quickly and the aggression went through the roof which I expected. The first pair laid eggs, I immediately moved the second pair into their own 40 breeder and they immediately laid eggs. I took the remaining two odd men out and added them to a large established tank.

Aggression between the mom and dads of both pairs was fine while they guarded their eggs and I figured they would be good after they hatched as well. Heavily planted and well-established tanks with tons of line-of-sight breaks and hiding spots. Literally both females were killed the same day eggs hatched. Zero indicators. Now I've got plenty of beautiful fry and two grumpy dads. Unfortunate lesson learned I suppose.

Beautiful species and I'm glad you're enjoying yours!

Do you have any kind of dithers? Tetras, Molly's, Plattys etc something for the parents to defend against instead of each other.
I had this pair in a 55gal for a year and half with zero aggression issues. Again they had many other fish to defend against.

They are beautiful!

I definitely did. Two different species of Tetras as well as a small species of synodontis. It was shocking that both pairs took it to that level that quickly. In all the years keeping fish I've never seen such a thing. Definitely disappointing. The fry are gorgeous too!

That is quite shocking. I never had any issues with HRP or Nanolutae pairings being aggressive towards each other.

Same here. I had 3 HRP breeding pairs in a 150g and no aggression issues. Way less aggressive than a. Nigrofasciata when spawning. Not even as aggressive as t. Meeki IME.

Right! I've got breeding pairs of Meeki's with zero aggression! Maybe I need to look for the common denominator in the two tanks that possibly set them off.

Anywho, I feel bad for hijacking the OP's thread! Sorry!
