This pair so far is doing a great job for the first batch of fry.
This morning when I woke they were around the center of the tank.

Now at lunchtime they have herded the fry to the left back corner.

And finally at dinner time, they have migrated all the way to the right front corner.

On the 2nd I posted a video, in that video I commented on how my giant vals are thriving. I point out a baby val on a runner, that just poked thru and was about an inch long.

Well here it is 8 days later.

Has grown to 6in plus in length and already sent out another runner. It is plant number 5 on a runner itself

What’s your secret?!
I can’t seem to get swords to grow (or val to spread) to save my life.

I used Caribsea Planted plus bought local to make sure it's still a sealed bag. There was a "water line" that filled about a third of the bag. I use the Finnex Planted Plus LED light CRV model. I did not rinse the substrate as suggested just poured it in liquids and all. That made the tank a bit cloudy the first few days.
The tank does get indirect light all day and in the evening direct sunlight for a couple hours. I can tell this helps alot. The Vals on the sunny side have double the growth of the shady side.
The tank itself is half in a window half a wall. Look thru the plants, left half is bright right dark

But I don't dose ferts and no CO2. No special program for the light. I use the 24/7 light part and just set it for the right time. It's actually only off from midnight to three AM. Rest of the day it's on at various strengths. In my post above about how the pair migrated around the tank. You can see the various brightness of the light during the course of a day.
