Amazing Cichlid parental care

Really neat!! Weird how the male looks female! Never seen that before in gorillus! In Africa there is a catfish that eats the eggs of cichlids while depositing their eggs in the same spot later to be brooded and cared for by the cichlid parents! Nature is so dope!!!

I had a pair of marbled cons and pair of salvinis that spawned at the same time. Knowing that it was my sals first brood I decided to put half of the spawn with my marbled con pair. They raised the sal fry like it was theirs.

So mrmann has a female that displays mostly male coloration and you have male that colors up like female??? That's interesting.

I feel like my gorillus blue are doing the same thing. I have a "male" around 7" and a "female" around 5.5". The larger one was always dark with bright blue sheen and the smaller was always a drab color with some minor blue irridescence. Now the large one has gone all white except for one spot on the side and the small one is super dark with blue sheen. The color change has been going on since a week ago when they started clearing gravel under an ornament.

A cool observation: Fry would all swim from one side to another during day time, but at night time stays with the parents.

I noticed the same behavior with convicts but it was just the fry and the two parents. I thought the fry got eaten the first time, but it turned out they were all hiding in the gravel in the same area the parents spawned and had been hovering around. I guess its thier home within the tank

Dad, the hatiensis pair laid eggs again last night. The dovii pair has fry too.

Hey little Ruck, your Dad has the nicest collection of fish I have seen!! You lucky!!;)
