Amazing findings...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah right, I would crap my pants if i walked into my lfs and found some kilsea's or ostigamma's. I can't find any fish of serious interest to me without taking the hour and 45 min. to milwaukee.

So...What have you found????

I have a long list... my newest though is what I believe and hope to be an aulonacara blue neon, and just yesterday me and my bf were discussing that we would not buy any more fish since presently we have over 500 with more "on the way" all the time so we need to cut off buying fish and spending any more $$ on this hobby/addiction for a while lol And it crossed my mind that I still had the blue neon on the top of my wishlist... and I knew if I saw one I would have to buy it but figured no way I would find one without driving about 2 hrs to Ned's... Today we drove about 10 min to the nearest lfs "zoo creatures" just to check on some mbunas we recently traded in there to see how they were doing (yes we have no life lol jk) and my bf is the one who spotted it in a tank of small ones only about 1.5 inch I wouldn't have even looked in that tank (ya right) but there was one that looks just like a blue neon and we got 2 females!! I will post some pics when I can get some decent ones... there has been a few good finds at that lfs and a couple others we also are near 2 others we have found some gems at. I also found my Boreylis at that lfs and I wasn't looking for that type at he time, but am very happy with them!!!

Lucky? Ha! I wish I were so lucky.

Yesterday I went to my LFS to see if they had any Yellow Labs and all they had in African Cichlids was 4 beautiful 2" Auratus, but I don't dare do that to my Electric yellows.

I have auratus with my electric yellows and they get along ok it's the kenyis that they fight with most often though but we have enough fish in the tank that cuts back on the aggression and it's a 125...

OK, yes, I admit it, I only shop at Dave's for cichlids. I get some through my local club, which has some really great stock as well. I tend to only buy Victorians anymore (with a few Malagasy cichlids thrown in) and I have good luck with Dave.

But I'm going to have to have these Calvus. They are just gorgeous, and the pictures just don't do them justice.

I hear you, I wanted so many fish from Dave's I would go through the list and pick out many of them I love going onto his website and seeing what the different types are and look like...Just can't afford to do the shipping but I was very close to getting christmas fulus from their but he had run out just as fast as he got them in so I could'nt  I had seen a christmas fulu in a display tank at one of the lfs's around here and asked what it was, that was probably the first time I really had an african on my wishlist, I never found my fulu but I did find a victorian hap thickskin (very randomly) at zoo creatures I was trying to tell the guy that works there that it was a victorian and he didn't believe me, he said they all came in from lake malawi (wild caught) lol they always try to tell me they come from the wild but I'm not so sure :screwy:I haven't seen any other vics around since then, very rare to find one at a lfs... I aslo found the female to go with my male in another tank that same day now the female is holding so hoepfully soon I will have a nice little colony of thickskins!!

well my LFS about 5 minutes away sucks. Not the selection but the people working there. Every couple weeks I pop in to check stuff out cuz they get nice fish every now and then. They had a 30G tank with assorted peacocks and Haps at about 4-5 inches for $44.99each. There was a Bucco. Nototeania in there I really liked but didnt have the loot at the time. I stopped off a couple weeks later and he was still there, BUT there were some juvies a couple tanks down showing more color and looking better than the $44.99 one so I got one of them for $16!!!! Score!

I actually found Kyoga Flamebacks in an LFS...Talk about a RARE find.

Nice.
If my LFS would to have them, they would be crazy overpriced!

Luckily I found a trio of males (2.5") from a breeder.
Paid little to nothing for them :)

I always have to resist when going into a LFS. Even though I am there to either buy food or supplies, I can't but help to check out the tanks.
I try to buy as little as a I can (fish-wise), but I mean c'mon, when you see a great deal, you have to pick up a new fish! lol
