I was at the lfs today and bought a couple of pieces of driftwood. The driftwood was in a dry bin not in the water. When I got it home, I washed it off and put it in my tank. A few minutes later, a small 1.5-2" clown loach comes out of one of the holes in the driftwood!!! I was completely amazed that it was alive. It swims funny though.....kind of lopsided and not looking too good. I hope it lives. Are CL's air breathers when they need to be?

I called the store. The girl said on Monday they rearranged some of their tanks and that the driftwood I got must have been one they took out of one of the tanks. Regardless, 2 days in the wood out of water and still alive is pretty cool. Jokingly, she said I owe her $10 for the loach lmao.

holy crap. can you get a pic of the little guy? i hope he makes it..

Must have still been nice and moist inside the wood. Lucky fish lol.

Another thing he has against his survival is he's in the big tank with big fish so he might get eaten. I just spent the last 20 minutes trying to catch him with no luck. I guess if he's in good enough condition to evade me maybe he can evade the fish. I'm going to try again in a little while but I really don't want to break down the whole tank to get him. See him trapped in the corner there? Looks easy enough right? :irked:

thats nutty

That's crazy. I have a similar story with one of my oddball 2in clown loaches who I couldn't find for a number of days in my 40 long. Figured it died of skinny disease for which I was treating the tank. Did a water change and cleaning and after about 1-2 hours I find the loach laying in 3mm of water in the exterior part of the overflow box that is drained from shutting off the pump. After about 20 minutes of trying to get him out of the tight space I finally got it back in the tank. Still alive after a week and fattening up a lil bit now.

Not quite as extreme as your story =) but these lil guys can be troopers.

That's what I'm going to name him. People will come over and I'll say, "That's Nutty the Clown Loach". :D
