Wow really lucky fish! I really hope this one makes it, and by the looks of it he probably will.
Loaches love to hide in driftwood. If you're removing some and you have loaches, you need to check every crevice. That's an amazing story. They don't have any kind of air breathing organ like the anabantids, so I'm amazed it survived. If you want to catch it, use two nets, and put some sinking pellets in the tank.
Im thinking somewhere inside the driftwood there was some water trapped and he survived in that. Amazing survival story though.
