For starters it needs a lower temp then the one you have for your fish! And second, it is easier to keep then matas but still a challenging turtle;)

From what i have read temp should be 78-82 degrees. That is the same as my fish.

Well you make me pull out my "Tortugas del mundo" manual and that temp is a bit to high for this turts as most of their distribucion is thoards more cooler areas, 72-75 should be enough. Also remenbar that they need basking spot and tend to not take well turtle pellets so invest more on raw meaty foods. Also if your going to try buy only a captive bred or a long term captive one. Newly imports tend to sudden death(like matas) and many may suffer of the horrible necrocit pneumonia due to the condicions of shipping, a fatal problem if left untreated.

I would go for Phrynops geoffroanus or Phrynops tuberosus. They are true tropical species which like temps between 22°C and 30°C, swimming a lot and with their long necks they have an interesting appearance.

I keep my tuberosus together with convict and firemouth cichlids and have kept them together with small jack dempseys. Has never been a problem if the turts are fed regularly. As long as the fish are too big for their mouth, the turtles won't care.

But do keep in mind, that EVERY turtle has to have a dry area where it can bask, rest and lay eggs if it's a female!

This is a video I took in a german zoo:

Is there a coomon name for these turtles that i might look for or ask for in a pet store? How hard are they to find and what do they cost?

A common name would be geoffroy's sideneck or peter's sideneck. But if you go to a specialized petstore they should also know those by their latin name. If you look on kingsnake, look for chelidman's ads, he sometimes offers hatchlings.
I also saw an ad on kingsnake a few days ago where somebody offered an adult pair.
