amazon/bumble bee puffer

Make sure the tank is completely cycled before adding the puffer. This particlular species is the nervous type & they do a lot of glass pacing, especially if you don't decorate their tank heavily. They need lengthways swimming room, so a 15g or 20 long is preferred.
 
i have a planted 30gal breeder tank all i have in it right now is 2 firemouths and some alage eaters and otto cats.

if i get 2 amazons they should be fine right?


theres some ghost shrimp in there to make them feel at home
 
they won't be able to handle the cichlids. my brother has a couple, and they are just too nervous. besides, with all of the decor you need for the puffers, the cichlids wouldn't have very much swimming room
 
I agree, smaller dwarf cichlids would be good. Also, 2 adult firemouths will need that whole tank.
 
that sucks well i have to play landlord and kick the fm out to another tank
 
pufferpink do you think frozen bloodworms are ok to give baby pigmy puffers?

i have six about .5" cant tell male/female yet
 
If your having trouble finding them under the name amazon puffer, i bought mine under the name "peruvian" puffer, and have also seen them sold as "south american" puffers. everyone always says these things need their teeth cut after 4-6 months, but mine were able to go about a year between trimmings. And they werent eating snails as the staple of their diet, i would just get a ton everytime i went to the petstore (would give me their "trash" snail hitchhikers for free) and would throw all of them in at once. after about a month the puffers would have hunted out most of them, so woud get some more. Mine mostly ate blackworms and mysis shrimp, and pellets.

Yes, that's a fine food for them. Be sure to keep an eye out for aggression, as they mature.
