has anyone used the amazon extract they sell for sa cichlids? says it has the proper acids, hummins and tannins to recreate amazon conditions, helps with colors to anyone use it or have input?

I've never used it,always thought that it was gimmick stuff that would not benefit the tank/water in any way.

Heck throw a piece boggwood in there ...

A few years ago a similar line of products was on the market....Waters of the World.

lol i looked at it and then picked up a piece of malaysian drift wood i understand it throws tons of tannins into the water heres a pic i used a beer can as size comparison

I have used it and alway's have some sort of softner/tannis/in the tank. I really would not lead you astray. Right now I have the Fluval Peat granules in the canister. I would recommend both as i have and use both. The only problem is they don't last long 1. Due to the large water changes we provide our Cichla and 2. you have to buy and keep adding a large amount to even notice or see the difference. I respect everyone's opinion so it is purely prefference. I also agree go get a large piece of drift wood to get pretty much the same result's. But if that's not an option then extract will give you similar result's and make your cichla feel comfortable.

as stated placing a piece of driftwood would work..

Why not make your own blackwater tonic?

I use peat, oak leaves and almond leaves, in an old Mr coffee from a garage sale.

i've used it several times. Doesnt last long as the carbon in your filter will eventually wash it out. It makes the water alittle acidic, brown, but like i said within a week it will wash out.

Yea I am not a fan of buying what you can make for free so I agree with this 100%. I would recommend the Almond Leaves for sure. I buy the Fluval because I get it for $1.25 and this last me 3 months.

I agree with what jimmie is saying here as well. I don't use Carbon in my Cichla tanks though but like I said large water changes removes all if not everything you added after the last water change. But I still add it depepnding on what tank im trying to get the desired result's I am looking for. I do treat all Cichla tanks with some sort of Tannis/Peat/Extract.
