I've been wondering the truths behind planting Amazon Swords into sand. I've heard that they love iron, I've heard about using root tabs, and I've heard that pool filter sand works well too. What would be my best bet as far as light and ferts if I wanted to add a few to a 29gl? Or is planting Amazon Swords into sand inadvisable? Any tips or experiences is greatly appreciated!

Sand is inert so it will have no affect. I had a large amazon sword in my 29 and it did great with my dual t5 ebay lights with no forts except the dirt layer I had beneath the sand. I have since moved it to my 125 and it's growing new leaves but much shorter. All its planted in is just sand with a 23 watt cfl bulb and a T12 bulb so I think amazon swords are very adaptable.

Grew swords and other plants in sand using sea chem root tabs and a cfl setup and they grew like crazy.

i started this 29gl out with some anubias and java ferns and of course they have taken well, floating and latched onto drift wood. its got a single old T8 24'' "eclipse natural daylight" bulb in the hood f18t8. wondering if thats enough to keep some swords going. if not what would be a decent single bulb?
Not really sure on a single economy bulb. When I did mine I went with a Compaq orbit, ferts and a CO2 setup. Plants went crazy.
