thanks in advance

a massive enclosure, $$$$$$$$, and dedication. plus smarts, cant go get eaten.

cause then thered be no one to feed your alligator.

yes some people have kept them. what do u want to know? basicly, its a large animal, needs alot of room and not for the beginner.
first a few questions....
1 Do u have the room?
2 Are u ready for a life long commitment?
3 Are you ready for all the care needed?
4 can u afford it?
5 can u legally own it?
If u can answer yes to all of those then We can help!!
what ya need to know?

btw ur sig is right on the money here

there growth rate is 4 to 14 inches a year, depending on sex, temp, environment, etc, less then a pbass, so far from what ive researched they dont really need that much until they get larger, the only thing i havent quite found info on is what temp is best for the water and what temp is best for the enclosure, from what ive read they like cooler conditions, but i havent found much on it, i could also use a few suggestions on best lighting

i dont know if its legal yet but all the rest are a go, im prepared to do or build whatever i need, and when it gets really big, being in a few years if i am even able to acquire one, and am unable to completely accommodate it, i can always donate to one of the many zoos, or keep until a proper breeder or conservationist can be located, rest assured im not the type to drop something off at your local fishing hole, more the type that would break your nose for doing so

most corocadilian like to keep an enternal temp around mid 70s i believe. not sure on exact temp for american gators.

Im planning on keeping my caiman(who like to keep internal temp around 72 if i remember right) in a enclosure(build in my sig) with the main enclosure temp in low 70s with ponds close to 78. that will allow the cooler den to keep him at the optimum range.

shoot, whats the site with all the croc help. crocadillian.net or something like that

ps most zoos wont take them due to the fact that they are uber common. if u get one u get one for life. My caiman(if i ever get the build done) will be in my will to my kids. lol. aint that great my son was just born 5 days ago and he already gets a caiman. lol

uhh any more q's? comments? concerns?

probably lol, not right this second though, im still doing my research, not set in stone yet, im thinking i may go with the caiman or dwarf caiman, that way i will be able to accommodate it much more effectively and indefinitely, i mite still go with american if i can find a female though, depends on alot, dont wanna get to ahead of myself

nice build by the way, read the whole thread, cant wait for the finish, and congrats on the new baby

sweet according to the sticky WA has no restrictions for reptiles, except certain counties which i happen to not be in, :)

Get a caimen. I babysat my friends gator for a month while he was away and that thing was an *******. His was only 4-5 ft at the time but I couldnt imagine messing with him when hes full grown.
