American Bullfrogs

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A taxonomist or group of taxonomists felt it and other former members of Rana were different enough to be given a separate genus name. Wrote up their findings, and the herpetological taxonomy society at large agreed to the switch. What exactly made them decide to upgrade Lithobates from subgenus to genus and to add more species to the genus, I don't know. You'll have to look up the paper.

When I went to school, they were called Rana catesbeiana. I'm still use to calling them that. :D

Yeah I grew up calling them Rana as well...but it happens.

I think the tank looks good for now, but it'll need more space one of these days. My mom's got a male in a cage she made out of an old coffee table. She cut a hole out and sunk a 20-high and filled it up with water, and put substrate in the rest. She made the sides out of acrylic.

Yeah, Bullfrogs get pretty large.. This has me thinking of some DIY stuff I've been wanting to try.. I think I'll start tomorrow! Any suggestions??
