Merhaba, Nasılsınız? Great looking fish and a very cool project. I lived in Karamursel on the Sea of Maramara for two years, great country. I miss the Raki...! What part of the country are you from?

Hi Tom, iyiyim siz nasılsınız?

I am from Tekirdag (source of Raki:D) on the sea of Marmara as well, working and living in Istanbul at the moment.
If I ever come to the U.S. I will bring Raki for you. When you were in Turkey were you able to visit aquaristic stores?

If you ever come into NY let me know. I never saw one fish store when I was there (that sold live fish anyway) but it was a while ago and think things are a little more modern now. I was there when I was in the Army stationed at Karamursel Common Defence Instalation this was 1977/78. It was between Karamuresl and Yalova. I spent many weekends in "The Bul" (what we called Istanbul). We would take the ferry from Yalova, and bring Raki and beer for the ride.

Nice fish man!

Dovii er getting easier to come by in Europe now. About 7 Years ago i had a breeding pair that produced lots of fry regularly, so i was able to spread them all over Denmark, but have not seen many since, they are however still around. In Sweden they regularly import Dovii's for wholesale to other countries, and indeed theire own aswell. So those you should be able to find.

I have never once seen or heard of anyone owning a Trimac in scandinavia however, and i think your best bet would be to Contact Reunemanns who is one of the worlds largest wholesalers, who among others supply fish to VerduijnCichlids and several other major vendors.

Otherwise, Rapps ships internationally (TangledUpInCichlids), but i recommend getting a group of people together, or convince a large fish store near you to take in a shipment from him, cause you will have to buy several hundred fish to spread the shipping cost over, or the price will be crazy high.

We got a very large shipment in from Rapps up here in Denmark last year, and there are now breeding pairs of all the exotic and rare fish all over my Country, and this is definatly the best thing that has ever happened to the hobby up here, so i highly recommend you do the same if able.

Good luck with everything!

Thanks to everyone for the kind comments !!

HrHagel, thank you very much for this info and to be honest I was not aware of the fact that Scandinavian countries would have been a good source for American Cichlids. So far we were only considering Czech, Germany, UK&Ireland to be good sources. 4-5 Months ago we had an attempt to import fish from Jeff Rapps. We were 14 people and total amount of the fish requested was around 120. Let say the fish were costing around X and all the other expenses were costing 8X !!! (import + certificate of origins + Health certs + commisioner....). We were still OK with the cost but there appeared a couple of further concerns then we gave up and decided to change the strategy. Unfortunately large fish stores are not willing to deal with such a limited demand. They import fish from far east and Africa and importing fish from the U.S. is a kind of extra work them. Current strategy is to find and buy a couple of Juveniles and/or breeding pairs from EU countries and breed them.
I would like to highlight that we are totally a non-profit organization, and the only goal is to spread the American Cichlids so that we will be able to see these beuties in our tanks instead of looking at the pictures in the net. Everytime we able to get new species I will keep posting their pictures here.

Thank you for your good wishes !!

Yeah i can see how "only" 120 fish would be extremely costly. I think the import we got was 5-600 fish, but i can't really remember it too well, but it was alot for sure. (When it comes to CA's who are significantly bigger than tetras and the likes, and they cant be packed with very many in each bag)

It's actually an extremely good strategy for any fish store in a country with very limited access to American Cichlids, because the 1 store up here that imported all these fishes is now being visited from every corners of the country, and even people from other countries make the trip here to check them out and buy them. But it can definatly be hard to convince a store to do this, but they really should, for theire own good too, ALOT of money can be made by being the only store in a given country with access to rare fish!

I hope you're succesfull at some point in your quest :)

nice pics..i love ur texas/pearsei/pbass especially! big fan of cichla and cichlids alike.

idk what i would do i we werent able to get anything here local, im good at networking and getting tings rolling bit it'd be hard on the fish level lol.. its a good things ur doin with sharing and teaching as well as introducing others to the hoby as well as the new species. best wishes and good luck with everything n the new year!
