Moonlights for what is it beneficial to him or so i can see him in the dark? Because i have a few spot lights around coloured blue XD. He is also in my Uromastyx room and i keep a red light on my uromastyx at night so i can see him.

I just woke up and checked on him he seems better hes breathing softer and exploring he made a big mound of sand XD.

So yea i wont put him in the heated tank with my cichlids they might bully him or the other way around or it might just be to hot for him. The divider so he can go under and feel safe thats a good idea i thought about putting a piece of pvc pipe in there but i might just do that.

Ill do updates later i have to go to school XD.

I was just in Chinatown and I almost did the same thing. I saw them in a window and I was like ... I wonder how much I could pick one up for.

I think they are best kept in slightly cooler water, 68-72 but I gotta double check that.

These guys also get pretty big :)

Ok yeah, a little more info on them:

They get to about 48-60" and need a big aquarium with a lot of hiding places (normal for eels).

They also seem from what I 'm reading to be more aggressive than most eels - especially with tank mates to be careful.

Awww, reminds me of my American Eel I used to have. I had him for 6 years, then he jumped out of the tank, crawled down a flight of stairs, and never recovered from them jump. But they will jump out of any opening, or if you have a hang on filter they'll swim up the stream. I kept mine in full salt but can tolerate fresh. They will eat anything that he can fit in his mouth, from frozen to live foods. Mine never bit me, only sometimes he'd give me a nibble if I were to hand feed him. But they love to burrow in sand, or will try to get under any substrate from gravel to rocks, so try to give him something smooth, or a cave/tube he can go in. As for the temperature, I never used a heater in the tank, I tried to keep my tank chilled a bit for the fish in it, but the tank stayed around in the low seventies.

For now, you should put a couple pieces of pvc pipe in the tank for the eel to hide in. Room temperature is fine. Keep the tank well covered, they are great escape artists.

Sure I just got back from school. I will see if i can get any good pics he started to make these holes but they fill up on him. I going to try to go to the plumbing store to buy some pvc pipe for him. He doesnt move much thou could be stress i put in some stress coat.

He's not moving much because he's nocturnal. I'd just leave him alone and let him settle in. Here's a good link with life history and other info on them, you should check it out if you haven't already http://www.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/zone/underwater_sous-marin/american_eel/eel-anguille_e.htm . The moonlights I suggested are for you, since you're more likely to see him move around at night than day. Do you have another tank to put him in that's under 80?
