I could get one from lake erie when they come into the bay and lagoons in the spring but they are always BIG Ones! Other than that time of the year I never hear of any being caught around me.

Note to FishEatFish (the original poster) and other Wisconsin residents: WI has implemented tough rules due to the VHS outbreak. It is now very difficult to legally collect live fish for aquariums. All fish in your possession must be dead before you leave a body of water. You are better off, legally speaking. trying to order one from a dealer.

if you have any really warm water lakes or ponds that have em nearby you can find the fry in shallow weed clumps just get a good thin mesh net and scoop up the weeds youll get plenty of specimens

They come up for sale every year. It's all in the timing though. Start looking in about two months. The season will last until about mid may but generally only one or two sources at best will have them. They go fast and don't hesitate if you see them, otherwise you will wait another 12 months.
