:nilly:

Had a long day yesterday. Probably 8 hours in the cooler. 12V pumps were in use the whole time. Had 2 WCs along the way. Temp never dipped below 73.

I've never seen anything like it. :irked:

Just a rough ride and should heal up OK or cause for concern?

Please help if you can!!!! Thanks in advance.

Clarify what happened db. Power went out for 8 hours? Can't imagine an ammonia burn in your system in that amount of time.

Could it have just been rubbed raw from the cooler lining?

Wow. Sorry to hear. Hope the healing happens fast.

She's new to me. Captive bred, 2 years old last week.

I picked her up from another Marble conesure yesterday. She was in transit in a cooler from 10 AM till about 6 PM.

Now when I was dumping her water out before dripping she got flipped over. I flipped her back over bare handed, not saying it wasn't there, it could have been, BUT I know it wasn't red like this. I would have saw it. The previous owner said he knows this wasn't there when he netted her.

Shadow, it's possible, but I've used this cooler several times in the past without issue, although there was some sand in there....

Her flipper wounds seem the worst, so I'm hoping this just means rubbed raw, or abrasions.

I'm not sure I know what Ammo burn looks like. Are we thinking more towards abrasions, or could it be ammo burn?

Not sure what to do in terms of care. There is some sand in with her now. I could remove it so she isn't further irritated. It's just her, my nether female (an inch smaller), a trio of Balas and some smallish Odoe in a 125 gallon tank on 270 gallon system. 3 other rays on this system in a 125, all 3 7-8" a Fluval 405, pot scrubbie filled wet/dry with 2K gph worth of return pumps and 4 AC 110s all for these lil guys.

I feel friggin horrible. I felt after getting my firstborn CB pup back that I knew how much they could mean to us and that is the only reason she's here, I told the guy I got her from that I know what 1st borns mean, and I'd care for her like I care for my own, I'd keep them together, and they'd never be re homed, they'd never be subjected to larger hungrier rays or cramped in lil tanks and here I am 24 hours later asking advice on how to care for her and showing off wounds. Talk about feeling like crap......

How much water were there in the cooler?

Just turn the lights of, and keep the temp high.

Im sure it will turn out ok. :-)

I've never seen anything like that either but an ammonia burn would mean she fouled the water severely in that amount of time. When was she last fed before transport? I think time, clean water and maybe some salt and she will be fine.

They appear more like abrasions to me, you know the drill. Clean water. I use mild salt (1 lb per 100g) for wounds and it always works well for early healing. Usually run it for two weeks then pull it and let the clean water do the trick. If you pull the sand the ray will have issue with traction when pushing off with her feet possibly irritating but if you leave it then it could also irritate. Personally I would leave it and see how she does.

Cooler water? I'd guess around 8 gallons maybe?

I think it would be kinda weird to see this kinda ammonia damage in such a small ray when I've transported so many much larger rays in the past and never had any kind of issues, some even traveling further/longer, sometimes without even having water changes.

I moved some sand. She swam right over to the pile and flopped in it. lol She appears fine from the top. She is supposed to be quite fond of swimming on the sides I guess, maybe it's possible these are from the cooler?

I fashioned up a divider just to be sure the fish don't bother her.

I tried shrimp and she didn't budge, but she couldn't resist the crawlers, so hopefully it's nothing super serious.

2 years old and looks to be 6-7" across.... :)
