so i have a 5'x2' tank with 2 juvenile stingrays in the tank. the tank has been setup for while and is established. the rays have a 5-6" disc. they are young. currently only fish in the tank. I currently have a fully loaded fx6 on the tank. I am having a battle with ammonia right now. It is currently between .25 -.50 ppm. i have been doing twice daily feedings and a 20% daily water change at night. Any ideas why i still have ammonia?

I suggest you feed only once a day until you get this under control. Have you tested your water out of the tap? I suggest also doing a larger water change asap.

im doing a 50% now. will feed once a day. what do you think the root of the problem is

Check your test kit make sure none of the reagent bottles are not expired.

Rays and Sharks put out a lot of waste than most species and possibly the filter can't maintain the bioload.

How long has the tank been running? You say it's established but it's not if there's ammonia and nitrite. Also, what's you pH. Ammonia toxicity is dependent on pH level. The higher the pH, the greater the toxic ammonia.

how much media do you have?

I have 5 juvenile rays about 5-6 inch, a flag tail 5-6 inch and a common pleco 5-6 inch in a 5x3x2

my overhead sump is 5x1x1 with about 20kg of media and a 5800l/hr pump
