Prepare a 2nd tube with commercially distilled water (home distillers may not remove ammonia from tap water) to see what zero really looks like and compare the two tubes.

Distilled water (L), tank water (R).

ok ill try that. so think its just not enough filtration for the rays?

Just curious how often do you test (for ammonia) and when did you start getting non zero ppm?

I could not see a difference. A more sensitive test said it was 0.04 mg/L. With that test I could kind of see the difference:

It tops out at 0.5 though vs. 8 ppm for API.

did a good vac of the sand. added ac110. test shows 0 now.
