ammonia problem

hello guy im a newbi i have a 55gall with 3 ocars and 3rtc x tsn hybrds. ive done water changes and i have ammonia chips in my 305 filter i put TLC in the tank 2 try 2 give my filter a boost but my ammonia is still at about 1.0 to 2.0ppm. if any one has any info that can help thanks i will have pics up soon :(
 
no i had them for a month now i had a diatom filter on my tank first i think that was my problem so went a brought the 305 about a week a go and i have a power head with the filter on it .
 
no i didnt my friend said the same thing maybe he does know what hes talking about . i want add more but going 2 wait about a month 2 add.
 
every other day i feed them and i just got the 305 filter a week ago the store told me not 2 clean it out for a couple of months. i just started hand feeding rtcxtsn to.
 
add some bio spira..... your in a cycle just watch the parameters and do water changes often

I don't want to sound like a broken record, as I"m sure you've heard this before on here, but please don't add anything else to the tank until you get a MUCH, MUCH larger tank. That tank is only big enough for 1 oscar when they get to be full grown, and that is even pushing it IMO.
Most of us here at MFK are all for overstocking as long as you're over-filtered, but this is certainly pushing the envelope on that.
As for your question, I would say you're in a cycle right now, keep an eye on your params, after the ammonia is gone your nitrites should spike, then your nitrates and you'll be in the clear. You can dose daily with prime for the time being, it will make it safer for your fish while your tank cycles, or you can just do LOTS of water changes to keep it really low, but if you do that the cycle will take a lot longer. You will need to do something though, because it will have ill effects on your fish. IMO dosing daily with prime is the best/most cost effective/least time consuming idea.
