Ammonia produced by X pounds of fish?

Gosh.

If you look here, you will find nitrogen content by component (amino acids and proteins.)

While if you look here you will see nitrogen content by item (e.g., halibut flesh, corn, scallop, shrimp.) https://www.ars.usda.gov/ARSUserFiles/80400525/Data/Classics/cir183.pdf

The latter saves all the work, but it's not comprehensive. The former gives you the needed details, assuming you can get the amino acid protein breakdown for each food item.

I don't know of an easy answer. (Not a chemist or nutritionist.) Maybe there is one, besides using a generalization of the formula (as I currently use.)

A generalisation is fine for me, a basic idea :)

Interesting model.

I wonder if they knew they could calculate ammonia, nitrites and nitrates ppm from that, plus if they added water changes, they could have also calculated a water change schedule.

Invariable, they have the same issue though. They are assuming some constant conversion of protein to ammonia. That's what I do, but it's not 100% accurate due to the assumptions on the nitrogen.

Still, it's a pretty nifty looking tool & far more user friendly then what I do. Plus the calculation on the media bed is a truly nice feature. I didn't look at that, but there are some formulas floating around on conversion of ammonia by square meter / foot of bio material. (I haven't been able to find the source of the calculation.) I wonder if this uses that number?

Good find.
