Ammonia Question.

Yes you can have high ammonia with no nitrite readings. It is likely though the high nitrite readings are soon to follow.

As said above it looks as if you tank may be underfiltered although this may not be the reason for your ammonia spike. I would increase your daily water changes as they are not enough if you are running 50ppm of nitrates

I agree larger water changes are a must and i would look at adding more filtration as well. Have you added any new fish to your tank recently.

No new fish added lately. I thought my filteration was good but I guess I'll have to save and buy a FX5 or two...
Thanks all, and one quick question agian, if I keep all the HOB filters on with a FX5 with just the jardini and a pair of rays would that be enough filteration?
