Ammonia Readings

Just did a 100% water change, turned the tank around and is now currently empty. I did a test of my water parameters and found the following

Ammonia = 0.5
NO2 = 0
NO3 = 0
pH = 8.0
Alk = 2.0
Temp = 7.5

I can't believe it but my tap water has an ammonia level of 0.5!!! Is there anyone here who had the same experience that I had with their tap water? I;m from Torrance, CA 90502

dont kill the bio filter...keep it running in chlorine free water

I did, I kept the filter running in a cooler with water from the tank. I then transferred it to the tank efter the water was dechlorinated. Filter lerft water for 30 seconds max. It is now housing a clowkn knife, a royal clown, tiny pleco and several feeder fish.
