Ammonia still detectable!

Okay, I took one piece of driftwood out for now. BUT.... I THINK I FOUND THE CULPRIT! I think it might be the sand! I had taken some sand out and placed it in a small tupperware container. I used the neutral R/O water to fill the container with. However, I had rinsed the sand with my well water before putting the R/O in so that probably raised the ph to about 7.2 or 7.3 (maybe?). Anyways, I left the sand in this container for a day with the R/O water, and it was still fine. I guess I should have waited longer! I just remembered the container, and decided to test it... Ph: 8.0! I guess that may explain some things! It just seems strange to me that it took so long for the ph to rise... but it would explain why the driftwood had lowered the ph, and then the ph sprang back up again, would it not?
