umm, well i got my tank last summer, so about a year old.
I just bought a discus so im increasing the temperature to about 83 degrees.
Also wondering if its a bad thing if the fish opens its mouth when it breathes?

Discus need VERY clean water from everything I've heard and read about them. Get a test kit ASAP...do NOT get the strips they are crap and not worth the paper they are made on. You want to add some extra filtration or some power heads, airstones something to make movement in the water, because as already mentioned the higher the water temp the less oxygen.
