Not sure man. it is a 120 gal, he could easily go with 7 all the way long.

:D

If it were a standard 6' 120 gallon I could see adding more but it's not. It's a 4' tank with the same dimensions as a 75 gallon only taller. These tanks are ideal for Angelfish but not Piranha. I have 5 8''-9'' Nattereris in a 125 and at times feel sorry for them.

I feel the #1 reason fish never achieve their maximum growth is due to being cramped up in too small of a tank. My first batch of Nattereri aren't even 6 months old and they're pushing 10''. I have every faith in the world they'll get close to a foot long eventually.

Mate, I don' t seem to undestand quite well that thing about your P's size, let's see:

Your reds are 6 months old and they are "pushing 10"? so I assume It means they are about 7" to 9" but not 10 yet?????.

If they have reached a size of 6-8 in six months it is very good, I would say your reds are within the normal growing range, I'd even dare to say they are above the media.....mine are 10 months old and range from 6.5" to 8"

Normally reds grow from 7" to 9" the first year of life and then the growht rate decreases to 1" per year, someone correct me if I am wrong....

Cheers.

standard 120g should be 4'x2'x2' which is wider and taller than standard 75g. the added width should be fine for 6-7 rbps. I believe the larger water volume will help to provide a more stable water parameter over the same period of time compare to a smaller tank, water parameter is one of the key factor to allow fish reach maximum growth. tank size wise, not so much since we can always throw in a strong enough power head in there and the fish can swim in the current and never get anywhere.

That's about right, mine are about 7''-9'' and still growing rapidly. I just received 3 unwanted Nattereris so I'm throwing them all in a 265 gallon. I'm aware they slow growth-wise after the first year but at this rate a few will be 12'' at 1 year of age. I have one that'll probably never reach 12'' as he's a runt but the others will likely get huge.

I guess I'm just more concerned about ample room for all my fish. I was addicted to marine tanks for years and the fish per gallon ratio is much larger with marine fish, not to mention some of these fish are upwards of $1500 fish!
I went to a LFS today and saw a 13'' Oscar in a 15 gallon tank. I feel no fish should be treated as such and would be better off being given away to someone willing to care for it or even euthanized.
