Hey I am thinking of getting a pair or a single amp lyonsi anyone have any info pictures or general info on them

Here's shot of a young one, they can look quite different from each other (color patterns, markings) depending on catch location of ancestors , or if wild caught, and range Costa Rica thru Panama.
They are insect and plant seed eaters in nature, so especially as they age, don't think of them as strictly carnivores, and feed a high protein diet.
There is a tendency for many to bloat, and I believe this is from the stress of high nitrates, and too much protein compared to roughage type plant material.
I was using a high Spirulina pellet like Algaemax, with every other day water changes, and had no problems.

Awesome thanks for the knowledge so I should feed more vegetable based pellets rather than your traditional cichlid pellet than correct also what size do they get and do they grow fairly quickly? Thank you

Of all environmental factors available ithat aquarists can influence, IMO good growth depend more on the amount and volume of water changes than anything else. Change 50% of the tanks water per week, and any cichlid will grow slower that two 50% water changes per week, or faster if 40% every other day (which was my normal routine), although it can't really grow any faster than what the best growth it is genetically programed to do.
I know of some breeders that do 90% water changes every day, , to get the best growth, especially when young.
So giving any standard growth rate estimate is rather pie in the sky.

Okay well thank you for the bit of knowledge you have shared with me much appreciated

Hey thanks Gourami Swami Gourami Swami I have a spare 90 I was going to use and see how it works out if not I can move some fish around and put them in a 125

I agree with Gourami Swami about the size tank, and wold probably start them in the 125. There are known to be quite hard on each other, especially in a cramped quarters. I started my 1" juvies in a 130.

duanes duanes 125 it is than thank you for the knowledge
