He is still a baby. His dad to over 14" But a very good looking boy. That fish needs to breed and keep that blood in the hobby.
I hear that Mack. That's why I got this female from Jeff. I've had her before. She lays thousands of eggs!:)

After seeing your chancho and amarillo pairs, I am confused now..

When I visited Reagan sometime last year, I thought I could easily tell the difference between Amarillo and chancho -- one is more yellowish in color (hence, Amarillo), vs the other is *ALL* head. Another board member has this male, which I think is what an adult will/is supposed to look like (not too much yellow, and very large head):

So, Chanchos will have massive heads, not so much a nuchal (sp?) hump, while Amarillos will be more "off"/yellowish in color and won't have as massive heads. The lips also, I thought, were different.

Seeing the Amarillo male you have, which is showing very little yellow (and lesser compared to your chancho male) and head shape resembling that of chancho...I am confused.

Is that because of the sources of the two fish..? Maybe Mack's fish were from some other source? Or, maybe its all related to whether the fish was breeding at that time or not. I can't remember whether Mack's pair was breeding at that time.

Ohh..and btw, nice pair. For a change, this amphilophus you have somewhat matches in size :)

Very cool fishes I like their shape!
I am confused though, are these guys originally discovered in Texas or something?

Anyone know if all amarillo turn more and more darker with age, as they mature? Mine are very yellow with some reds on the dorsal fins and chest area. Even when barring up the yellows get more intense.

This is the only good photo I found of an adult pair. Don't know if the op is still keeping this pair so I was wondering if anyone else had some insights.

Was hoping my guy looked more like this guy =) *photo by ciclidosmexico
