amphilophus and dovii

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
they are in an old 110 long with a divider. i wanted to get a 8 footer but i dont think they can live together so i might just get another 6 footer and give them their own space.

Nice. I think the likelihood of them getting along in an 8 is unlikely as they are aggressive monsters. That would be cool to get another 6.

Get the 8 footer for the Dovii.....you'll thank yourself.

will he grow faster? will it be hard for him to accept a female at this size?

I don't know if he'll grow faster but he'll eventually need the extra swimming room. Plus a female will stand a better chance with more space.

I don't see much color on yours. Does he have blue fins? I think you're just getting flash washout in your pics. Try to add more tank lighting and turn off your camera flash.

Nice fishes, what type of Ampilophus is that?

I'm thinking it could be a number of reasons:

No gravels
another fish on other side of divided tank
lighting
etc

dont know what kind of amphilophus it is. it wasnt labeled correctly when i bought it. it wasnt labeled at all. they had just got it as a trade in when i seen him. she thought it was a low quality flowerhorn and i got him for $30.

do all doviis get blue or just certain ones?

All Dovii should have some blue in their fins. But you might not have the right lighting or maybe because of the lack of substrate.... He might not like the lack of places to hide either.... I agree with Balton on the tank however. A Dovii when fully mature deserves nothing less than an 8 foot tank.... and some space to turn around.
