Amphilophus Citrinellus vs Amph. "Red Isletas"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Both red isletas and midas look great. I think the isletas would be better suited for a 75. The Isletas get a bit smaller at about 12-13" for males. They have a similiar build to midas and get nice humps. But I personally have never seen a hump on an isletas that matches a midas. Midas also have more of a stocky build . Red isletas grow a bit slower too.
You can't go wrond with either.
My midas is in my avatar he is 10.5"

Here is a pic of my 10" male red isletas. The midas has a much stockier build and they are almost the same size.

Of course. Just so you know they don't show red all the time. mostly when breeding.

here is mine at 7.5" notice the red is more prominant

I would go with the Red Isletas if I had to choose one for a 75.

Like mentioned as far as personality they are pretty much the same. I have kept midas and now have a pair of isletas and they act almost exactly the same. The isletas form nuchal humps earlier than midas. Also female isletas form nuchal humps quicker. My female isletas already has a nuchal hump t 5" where as my female midas did not have one at that size. The red comes and goes. When my isletas are displaying the red is very intense. It is also very intense when eating.
