Hi I've recently purchased a Amphilophus Hogaboomorum male and is currently around 8 inches. Their is not much info out their on these guys just wondering if anyone has experience with this fish. He is currently in a 90 gal with a red devil at 5 inches and a sailfin plec and is definitely the tank boss. What's the potential max size of this fish and any special requirements.

Im raising out two Hoga myself and just rehomed one to Jexnell Jexnell recently. I treat them like any other aggressive amphilophus. Mine are being raised with Petsmart red devils, Midas and Sagittae. Im trying for an amphilophus community in my 8ft, 300 gallon.

Nice. I've seen a video on YouTube of an all Amphilophus tank and it looks amazing. My Hogaboomorum is definitely the tank boss and does chase off my devil of he goes to his side of the tank gres looking fish and hopefully these two can Co exist together long term

My dominant Hoga got moved in my 75 gallon growout due to aggression toward the other hoga. Was a bit better when I had the 3 and one fish didnt get all the attention. The one in the 300 now, is calmer and more outgoing, interesting that it has the best color too. My hoga did not pay attention to any other amphilophus, just other hoga. Not sure what will change with the new change in power in the 300 but my hope was to keep 1 male hoga in my amphilophus mix.

Out of my amphilophus the hoga are very unresponsive. Not very wet pet like. They come to the front for food but thats about it. My Petsmart red devil is very interactive in comparison.

My two are the other way round my f1 devil has always been very shy and my hoga has been fine but I had the devil from 1 inch and is now about 5. He was seriously agressive towards other fish but since the hoga has come in he is now the tank boss and is one hungry fish. Great colours on him too.

Not in that tank they won't.
I think RD. RD. just brought up the 'elephant in the room'... It will not be easy to house two big amphs in a 90 gallon. Usually one is always dominant and will hound, chase and beat the other one into submission. Typical cichlid behavior. Any tank upgrade plans in the future?

Yeah but not in the same tank they both will have their own the devil will go in a 80 gal once these two properly fall out. The amphilophus Hogaboomorum fights with his own reflection and has just bullied my 13 inch plec into submission that I had to re home so I'm keeping a very watchful eye on these two
