Hi'

I'm stuck between getting these cichlids, both are great cichlid's.
Has anyone had success keeping both together or would the size differnce cause a big problem?
I am thinking of getting the Amphilophus Lyonsi first letting them grow a bit and then possibly getting Parachromis Dovii afterwards as these will grow faster.

If it's a bad idea mixing them does anyone know if the Lysoni will have much of a personality compared to the dovii?

Based on what I've read on mfk and gcca lyonsi are nowhere near as aggressive as other amps and won't show their best colors if their tankmates are too aggressive.

They are not compatible, pretty much on two ends of the spectrum as far as aggressiveness. I have kept both, but never together. Lyonsi will flair at each other all day, similar to meeki, depending on the setup and fish. Dovii will more than flair, they will be very violent toward each other and you may utlimately end up with one male or a pair. You will need a larger tank for dovii long-term than you would for lyonsi. Both are colorful in their own way. Dovii are more challenging over lyonsi to keep given size and aggressiveness.

i have both lyonsi and dovii i have 2 lyonsi and 4 dovii the lyonsi are 6" dovii are 5" all in the same tank but the dovii are getting more aggressive soon going to move them to a seperate tank, dont recommend keepin them in the same tank. lyonsi are about the same aggression as jack dempseys

I've asked for 6 Lyonsi will get Dovii when i've got a seperate tank for them. If i get the urge for Jag / dovii type fish i my get a freddy although i'dimagine i'll be more than happy if i get a pair out of the 6 ive asked for.

Ahhh if u wanna keep ur Lyonsi, I wouldnt keep them with dovii. The dovii would tear them a new one. Wont work. Maybe when young but dovii grow quick and so does their attitude. Also dovii grow to massive sizes. Are you ready for a beast of a fish?

As i said ive ordered the lyonsi, should be here on Wednesday morning :)

Yes i would have somewhere for the Dovii if i didnt go for these but i'm more than happy to taking advise so just getting the Lyonsi:D

I am currently keeping a single male lyonsi. He has great personality- nnot a glassbanger but interactive with me and never hiding. The broad range of colors mine shows is amazing. Mine doesnt rearrange the tank all the time like most amphilophus either. good luck with yours they are very cool fish
