Im curious how big these fish really get I have been researching and have gotten different answers 8"-12"... I have had mine for 3 months exactly and he has grown from 4.75" to 8" TL exact.. measured him yesterday... I know they are similiar to Midas but Midas seem to have a wide range of sizes.... I know there are many people keeping these... what is a normal size they reach? and how long does it take.... mine doesnt seem to be slowing down except recently he has started to put on more bulk....
Thank in Advance.
Also I am putting before and after pics to give you guys an idea on his growth in exactlt three months.

unless you want sombody to lie to you the answer is between 8 and 12 inches.......depending on tank size, genetics of fish, health of fish,etc..
this is a red devil species and besides the Chancho, there is not a lot of difference in size......I'm talking female.....

are you positive its Amphilophus Xiloaensis?
100% positive he was purchased from Jeff Rapps.... I am asking personal opinions in adult size of them...

I would think all Amphilophus grow very rapidly, You should usually
see 10-12'' in the first year of age, I would expect no different
on size then a typical Red Devil species.

You are looking at 10-12" for males and 9-10" for most females full grown. Yours will stop growing length wise pretty soon and really start to bulk up. Most of the growth you will see after 2-3 years is girth and height. I have several of these fish and the last time I grew out some from hatching to adults it took about 2 years for any of them to reach 10". Females are also slower to spawn then other amphilophus so don't expect them to start laying at 3" like most of the others will.

Agreed, For Xilos most likely the slowdown will be around 8-10" for males, females the slowdown will be between 6-8".
