Amphipods, those little white almost shrimp looking things have taken over my tank. in the past couple days the number of them has doubled now there is lots of little baby ones running up the back of my tank. i've read up about them and it says they are a good thing! :D
i don't mind them at all but wouldn't want them to seriously overtake the tank ... there is just a halloween hermit crab and a snail i got free with the rock.

so is there a fishy that likes to eat these, is reef safe and will be good for life in a 15gallon tank. i'm planning on buying a fish in the next 2-3 weeks :D

There is a good possibility they are copepods, rather than Amphipods...either, they are certainly benefical as a food source...As for fish wise to to consume, your tank size really does limit you unfortunatly...I cant recomend any of the normal pod eating fish like scooter blenny, mandarin, sleeper goby's because they would be too big for the tank...

I feel your best bet to control the pod population is a caniverous shrimp (skunk, sexy, CBS etc etc ) or more hermits...

yeah i thought tank size would limit it...it was just a question, not concerned about them ...i think the hermit crab its eating them! and i need to increase the amount i have.i compared Amphipods and copepods they look more like Amphipods but they are so small!

i have a halloween hermit crab and a nassarius snail, at the fish shop they sell blue leg hermit crabs that look good, i wouldn't like to get another halloween because they get to a bigger size than the red/blue leg hermit crabs.

will a blue leg hermit crab be ok with the halloween? and how many do you think i should get as i prefer hermit crabs over shrimp and snails

to be honest, if you were to give it a little algea every now and then, a cherub angel might to pretty good in that tank. 15 is a little small. but hey who hasn't ever done that before...

lol oh no! you asking me to break the reef tank law!

over here they retail at about £45 - $90 and for my first marine tankage that a bit to much!

whoa! haha my uncle actually just dumped a cherub on me a few days ago. i was out - luckily my dad had the sense to put it in the sump. god knows what would have happened if it got loose in the display. i'm going to bring it to my LFS and see if i can get a tang from em (:

nothing yet! going on saturday to get a couple more hermit crabs.....but on top of the sand there is a bigish patch of kinda ummm look like dust and its crawling in them! i mean thousands!

do you think i should syphon them out? or just leave them be
