i have a 210 with a 2 flower horns 2 red devils 2 parrots green trr ,frontos, plecos, jack dempsys , johannis .......ex ..... they all get along and there all huge ... what im saying is they need a big tank and they will get along id put the chics in the 90 and the angels in the 55 thats all im saying

u can vac just fine with sand, mixing sand with gravel defeats the purpose of having sand in general cause the sands just gonna fall under the bigger gravel

the word "mbuna" means rock dwelling. i would go with something like yellow labs and rusties. or saulosis and rusties.. i love all three of them. i have a 180 gallon with mixed mbuna-and i took out my gravel and put in sand. the fish love to sift it, and i love watching them move it and dig holes. you will see they become more active with the sand.

i keep crushed coral in pantyhose bags in my sump to keep the ph level higher. whatever you choose to decorate with, you will need lots of rockwork.

Awesome help guys! Yea im pretty set on a single species tank. With the hope of some spawning. I think im gonna go sand as well but i have a few more ?s. Sooooo, with my idea of a single-species tank with the idea to breed, what species would be easiest as far as maintenance and whatnot, how many can/should i have, and what ratio for male to female? Keep in mind id like to be able to have a dimorphic (meaning able to differentiate male from female) species. My other question is how do u syphon with sand without sucking up the sand? And another kind of off topic question, is 90 gallons too small to attempt to breed frontosa's? (i think it is) Again THANK YOU for all your info!

he explained he wanted orange leluipi they are from lake tanganyika and they would be fine in a 55

So bottem line......Sand bottom? Lelupi's (is what i think they are) or yellow lab's? (Minding that id prefer to have the chance to breed) slate rock decor? (quick ? thats come to me, whats the best way to secure stacked rock so that it doesnt fall and crush my fishies?) and finally is my current filtration adequate? (Whisper 60 H.O.B and a Fluval 305 canister) Thanks again for the help guys!

BTW, Mike, that video was PERFECT! I always figured that was how you should do it but i didn't know if it would remove enough waste, thanks a ton coz i totally prefer the look of sand to gravel!
